Because Wp.com is so awesome, it comes with all the SEO you’ll ever need. For people who don’t know what “SEO” is, it stands for Search Engine Optimization. In the long run, it’s better to stay with Wp.com than go to WordPress.org and get a ton of SEO plugins.
Make sure to be patient! Results of showing up in search engines can take weeks, or even months to see. Don’t worry – as long as you have a large, updated blog, you’ll show up soon.
Never say “sorry”. People hate it when you say sorry – even me. If you need a new header, don’t say sorry – just DO IT! This will make your readers happy, and help improve your rankings.
Use Tags & Categories! This will really, really help improve your stats. Search Engines will find those keywords and index you, as well as you will show up in the global tags – getting more visitors. Make sure to keep them relevant, though.
Titles & Permalinks! Make sure to add relavent titles, and change up your permalinks! This will help out as well.
So, what are your little tricks? Have a response to this? Leave a comment, and let me know.
Thanks,

hmm ok… so how can i make it so that my regulars can post without me moderating their responses but non-regulars or new ones have to get moderated?
You can change the roles of people who can post under “Users” in your dashboard. An “Editor” has to be approved, while an “Author” does not.
If it helps, I might make a post about this in the future.
You responded to a post about 301 through wordpress which someone else disagrees with. That post led me here..
Please tell me if I am understanding this all correctly.
In plain terms are you saying that if I know how to do SEO ( which I do ! ) I can do it AS well through a wordpress.com site such as weightbytes.wordpress.com as I could through weightbytes.com ?
I can not figure out wordpress through my own hosting service, so I was going to try to create my site through wordpress.com and then do a 301 redirect to my own domain and hosting service. However if I am understanding this correctly, I may be creating more work for myself then need be??
Thanks
In short, what I’m saying – is that WordPress.com will have better SEO than a self hosted blog no matter what.
If your trying to have the .com blog ONLY because you want the visitors to come from it to oyur other one- then not a good idea. You do know that you can use your custom domain (weightbytes.com) with WordPress.com – right?
Great article! Thanks for the tips. What I’m wondering is, would it improve (or hurt) my rankings if I were to buy & map a domain name through wordpress.com? Or would it be the same?
Hi, I haven’t visited your blog in awhile and I miss coming here.
I like your new header.
I’m glad to learn that my chances for SEO are better with WordPress.com but I’m confused about what makes you say that. You mentioned permalinks and I thought that the All in one SEO plugin helped do things with the permalinks that WordPress.com can’t help with.
I will love to spread this info to some other bloggers that are using WordPress.com too.
Thanks!
@Ileane
Interesting take on the wp.com scenario i think you can have the same effect if not better by having a stand alone domain.
